Portlethen on Wednesday 18th March is not only the second and final round of the 19/20 Championship but also the very last counting round for the prestigious Order of Merit competition. In the Scratch Section, Greig Hutcheon has been roaring up the inside track but is agonisingly short of the big prize by 25 points, even if he were to gain all 500 points at Portlethen and John Duff were to forget to turn up. A great effort nevertheless as Greig only joined us later in the season. However, assuming that John and Peterhead’s Phil McLean do play at Portlethen, the battle remains. With John 275 points ahead of Phil, who knows who will clinch the title!
If that was not exciting enough, the Class 1 Handicap Section may create some extra interest. Whilst highly unlikely, it is arithmetically possible for any of the top ten players to snatch the top prize at Portlethen. Top five however are certainly in the game giving Brian Nicolson and Stewart Finnie a good run for their money!
In Class 2 Handicap, we have Nigg Bay, Portlethen and Cruden Bay challenging for first place. Let battle begin at Portlethen on the 18th!
