A record number of entrants in the time of the current secretary.  105 players booked up and playing at a Portlethen course in excellent condition with fast greens and beautifully presented by Neil Sadler and his team.  Very lucky again with benign weather conditions and only gentle breezes to contend with.

It was testament to the ever improving course that the best scores of 4 under par 68 won the day.  Peterhead’s Philip McLean, following his astonishing 8 under par 60 last week at Aboyne, tied at the top with Craig Lawrie, who was making his entrance at this season’s Alliance events.  With Sean Lawrie and Kevin Duncan close behind in 4th and 5th places, it was left to plus 2 Cruden Bay amateur Chris Gilbert to split the pros with an excellent 3 under par 69.

68 Craig Lawrie (Paul Lawrie GC), Phil McLean (Peterhead)
69 Chris Gilbert (Cruden Bay)
70 Sean Lawrie (Paul Lawrie GC)
71 Kevin Duncan (Cruden Bay)
